Marking Before Cutting
Why surface labeling and score passes must strictly precede structural perimeter severance.
Read articleUnderstanding workpiece displacement, honeycomb sag, and how cutting internal holes prior to outer perimeters preserves precision across laser operations.
When a laser severs an outer contour, the separated part loses rigid contact with the larger parent sheet. Any subsequent inner piercing risks mechanical shift, focal loss from honeycomb tipping, or assist-air drift.
A raw sheet clamped or weighted on the laser bed provides a rock-solid mechanical reference plane. Every internal aperture, mounting hole, and decorative cutout cut during this state shares identical coordinate stability with the machine gantry.
Once the outer contour is completed, gravity, bed tooth spacing, and pressurized assist air immediately act upon the free part. Even microscopic tilting of just 0.5 mm throws the laser beam out of focus and ruins intricate interior holes.
Treating sequence order as an engineering constraint rather than an aesthetic choice ensures repetitive accuracy and stops waste across entire production batches.
